Trailer Volumes and Weights

A normal load on a standard car trailer is ½ cubic metre (0.5 m3).

The weight for a 1/2 cubic metre (0.5 m3) of product can range from 150-200kg for some mulches up to 800kg for builders mix.

Check your trailer and towbar for towing weights.

There are 14 contractor wheelbarrow loads to a ½ cubic metre (0.5 m3).

Calculating Volumes Required
Contact Us and we will be happy to help you calculate the amount of product you will need or you can calculate the amount of product required using the following guidelines.

If you have odd shaped areas try to break it up into rectangles, triangles or circles as best as possible.

Calculate volume:  Square Metres x Depth = Cubic Metres (m3)    OR     Refer to table below

Rectangle or Square
Measure the Length by the Width in metres = Square Metres (m2)

Example:
Given a rectangular area of 10 metres long by 6 metres wide and you want 20mm deep of material.
Calculations: 10 m x 6 m = 60 m2
                   60 m2 x 0.02 = 1.20 m3 (loose measure)

Triangle
Measure the Length by the Width in metres x 0.5 = Square Metres (m2)

Example:
Given a right angle triangle area where one side is 10 metres long and one side is 6 metres long and you want 50mm deep of material.
Calculations: 10 m x 6 m x 0.5 = 30 m2
                   30 m2 x 0.05 = 1.5 m3 (loose measure)

Circle
Measure the Radius (1/2 of the distance of the diameter) in metres x Radius in metres x 3.14 = Square Metres (m2)

Example:
Given a circle 10 metres across (5 metres radius) and you want 100mm deep of material.
Calculations: 5 m x 5 m x 3.14 = 78.5 m2
                   78.5 m2 x 0.1 = 7.85 m3 (loose measure)

A loose measure is before a bobcat or tractor drives over the product which reduces the thickness. Therefore, you may also want to add 25% to allow for compaction.

It is ALWAYS wise to get more than you estimate!
